Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or owe allegiance to the United States.
Experience: You need 3 years of full-time work with children or youth, combined with appropriate education, or a combination of education and experience. The announcement does not tie this experience to a stated grade level.
Education: You can qualify with a 4-year degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary or special education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), or a related field, plus 3 years of full-time work with children or youth. You can also qualify with a master's degree in a related field plus 1 year of professional work with children. A combination of at least 24 higher-level semester hours in a related field plus experience or coursework equal to a 4-year degree, plus 3 years of full-time work with children or youth, also qualifies.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 4 days (November 7, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume is checked for eligibility and then rated on knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) using a set scoring guide. You must also complete the online questionnaire. Best qualified applicants go to the hiring manager, and interviews may be held; missing documents can lead to an ineligible rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Send official transcripts only; diplomas and degree audits are not accepted, and missing transcripts can make you ineligible.
- Show your 3 years of full-time work with children or youth on your resume, with dates and hours per week.
- Know that a positive drug test, including for marijuana, can cancel a job offer and bar you from DoD jobs for 6 months.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
