Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen (or owe allegiance to the U.S.) to apply. If you are a current permanent employee of the Minneapolis VA or another current permanent federal employee, the agency says to apply under announcement CBSY-13101969-27-MI instead.

Experience: You need 1 year of experience at the GS-12 level, which is the level just below this job. Qualifying experience includes working as a professional pharmacist, communicating with patients and staff, knowing laws on controlled drugs, and monitoring how drug treatments work. Residency or fellowship training in a specialty area can count toward this experience, year for year.

Education: You must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited pharmacy school with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Graduates of foreign pharmacy programs qualify with FPGEC certification, which includes passing the FPGEE exam and the TOEFL iBT English test. A Pharm.D. is preferred.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes tomorrow (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications, based on your questionnaire and application documents. VA may verify your resume, CV and other documents, and may check references. Missing information or unclear descriptions of your experience can lead to disqualification.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Write your answers to each KSA clearly, since the agency strongly recommends it.
  • Show your GS-12-level pharmacy experience in your resume, with dates and hours per week.
  • Attach your transcript, since you must submit it to qualify through education.
