Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Current employees of USPS OIG, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Postal Regulatory Commission will not be considered.
Experience: You need 2 years of experience with a law enforcement agency. The announcement does not state a grade level for this experience.
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university can qualify you. The school must be accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Education from outside the U.S. must be deemed equivalent to U.S. education by a credential evaluation service.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume must clearly show experience in three evaluation factors: knowledge of investigative techniques, presenting information orally and in writing, and working with a team. Top-rated applicants may be interviewed, and a zero on any factor or on the interview makes you ineligible, and using an AI tool during interviews leads to disqualification.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Top Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must be two pages or less and must show each of the three evaluation factors with specific detail.
- Upload your FY 2025 performance appraisal with Coaching and Review comments, or a written reason it is not available; an SF-50 does not count.
- Click Submit My Answers at the end of the Occupational Questionnaire, or your application will not be complete.
