Who can apply: The public.
U.S. citizens, non-U.S. nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. may apply. Non-U.S. nationals must have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for three or more continuous years before starting federal service.
Experience: You need a minimum of five years of specialized experience. This means work with engineering mechanical systems, blueprints, maintenance, supply, project management and contracting, plus extensive knowledge of HVACR systems and electrical switchgear and generators. The announcement does not name a comparable grade level beyond the NF-4 pay scale.
Education: This job does not have an education requirement. A degree in facility or construction management is preferred but not required.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 21 days (November 26, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
The first cut-off date is 02 November 2026. Additional lists may be pulled after that date at the hiring manager's request, so the job may be reviewed before the closing date.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: An online questionnaire first checks whether you meet the basic qualifications. HR then reviews your resume, documents and questionnaire answers against the job requirements. If your questionnaire answers do not match your resume, or if experience is overstated, you may lose consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages and clearly show your HVACR and electrical maintenance experience.
- Make sure your questionnaire answers match what your resume says.
- Only Oahu residents are considered first, so list your current address accurately.
