East CDC – Child and Youth Program Assistant 01/02
United States Space Force · Department of the Air Force
This job in plain English
This is a permanent Child and Youth Program Assistant job at Peterson Space Force Base near Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the United States Space Force. It is a nonappropriated fund position, paid from base recreation funds rather than tax appropriations, that supports Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) activities. The work is intermittent, so hours are not guaranteed, and there are few vacancies.
It may close early. Applications are sent to hiring officials every two weeks until the job is filled, so the job may be filled before the closing date.
Can you apply?
Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.
- Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Preference categories include military spouses, veterans, and others, and you must prove any preference you claim.
What you would do
- Supervise children and youth during indoor, outdoor, and field trip activities.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities for children and youth.
- Arrange and serve snacks and meals.
- Brief staff, management, and parents on program activities.
- Inventory equipment and supplies.
- Transport children in government vehicles, if required.
Do you qualify for CY-1 to CY-2?
With experience: You must be a high school graduate or have an equivalent. Target level requires 18 months of work in a childcare or youth program, plus extra training or a credential. Intermediate level requires six months of experience equal to the Entry Level, working in a group program for children or youth, plus training modules. Entry level requires no previous experience.
With education: Education can be used in place of some experience. At target level, you can combine 18 months of childcare or youth work with an associate degree that has a major course of study (24 credit hours) directly related to the age group. A bachelor's degree, or 120 semester hours with a major course of study (24 credit hours), can also qualify in fields such as early childhood education, child development, youth development, recreation, or physical education. Foreign education is accepted only if you show it is equal to U.S. education.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Diploma or GED (required for all levels)
- Resume that clearly describes your relevant experience, including dates and hours
- Immunization records (required)
- Transcripts, if you qualify through education
- DD-214 or Statement of Service, if you claim veterans' preference
- Proof of any other preference or priority you claim
- Cover letter (optional)
How you will be rated: Your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire answers are checked against the qualifications. If you are minimally qualified, your resume and documents are compared with your questionnaire answers to set your experience level. If you appear to have overstated your experience, you may lose consideration. Incomplete packages or missing information can also lower your rating or remove you from consideration.
Tips for this job:
- Upload a copy of your high school diploma or GED, because it is required for every level.
- Make your resume show your childcare or youth program work with dates and hours per week. Volunteer work counts.
- Submit your immunization records with your application. Missing required documents can make your application incomplete.
