Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the United States. You must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.

Experience: One year of specialized experience comparable to GS-4 work. It must include chair-side help for a dental specialist during procedures inside the mouth.

Education: A full four-year course of study in a dental assistant or dental hygiene program that included at least 24 semester hours in radiation topics, such as radiation physics, radiation biology, radiation safety, X-ray film quality, radiographic techniques, darkroom processing, and film mounting. You can also combine education and experience so that the total reaches 100%: divide your months of experience by 12, divide semester hours beyond two years by 60, and add the two results. Foreign education must be evaluated by a recognized private organization or receive full U.S. credit.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Radiology certification as a radiographer, meeting the federal standards in 42 CFR Part 75 (basic requirement)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross, which you must obtain and maintain

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 7 days (November 4, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications, using your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire. Missing or incomplete documents can make you ineligible. If your qualifications or experience are found to be inflated, you may lose consideration.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must be two pages or less and must clearly show your one year of chair-side dental work; longer resumes are removed.
  • If you qualify through education, upload official transcripts from accredited schools with your application or you may be rated ineligible.
  • Upload your current, active, unrestricted radiology certification early, since uploads can take up to an hour to clear the virus scan before the 11:59 PM EST deadline on 11/04/2026.
