Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, including candidates who live worldwide, and to military spouse, family member and involuntarily separated military preference eligibles. You must be a U.S. citizen, a national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S.; the agency also says non-U.S. nationals must have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for three or more continuous years before federal affiliation.
Experience: You can qualify with 12 months of experience working in a related field. If you qualify through a BA or BS degree instead, you must also have work experience directly related to the duties.
Education: A high school diploma or GED can be used for the first option. The second option accepts a BA or BS degree with a major emphasis on ECE, Elementary Education, Child Development, Home Economics, Special Education or a related field. Education must be directly related to the position, general education courses do not count, and it must come from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accreditor.
Licenses and certifications:
- CDA, School-Age/Youth Credential (including Boys and Girls Clubs of America), or Army Youth Practicum, to possess and maintain (first option)
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 4 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application is reviewed against the listed qualifications, including your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers. If your questionnaire answers do not match your resume and documents, or experience is overstated, your consideration may be affected.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less and list dates for your related experience.
- Submit proof of education and your credential with your application by the closing date, since they are required.
- Answer every questionnaire item, because missing answers may lead to an ineligible rating.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
