Who can apply: The public, Internal to an agency.
Open to all U.S. citizens, and current permanent employees of the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System get first consideration. Veterans' preference does not apply to current agency employees.
Experience: Experience is rated against VA nurse levels. For example, the Nurse I, Level III level needs 2 years of professional nursing experience, with one year at Level II. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts, and 2 years of ICU experience is preferred.
Education: You can qualify with a graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE. A bachelor's (BSN) or master's (MSN) degree in nursing can qualify you at higher levels, and some master's bridge program coursework may also count. Foreign nursing degrees are not counted as related degrees, and schools must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized body.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted nursing registration from a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes today (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You are rated on how well you meet the qualifications, using an online questionnaire you must complete in full. Your application and documents are verified, and missing or unclear information can lower your rating or make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- If you want student loan repayment, submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Questions can go to Kellie.Etchison@va.gov.
- Describe your critical care or ICU experience clearly and specifically, since the agency does not assume experience.
- Attach your transcript and complete the full online questionnaire, since missing documents may lead to an ineligible rating.
