Who can apply: The public.

Open only to U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals. Veterans' preference does not apply because this job is advertised under Title 7 authorities.

Experience: To start at CO-5, you need at least 1 year of general work experience supporting agricultural operations, agricultural management, government programs, or office and customer service work. To start at CO-7, you need 1 year of specialized experience at the CO-5 or GS-5 level. To start at CO-9, you need 1 year of specialized experience at the CO-7 or GS-7 level in federal service, with knowledge of farm program policies.

Education: At CO-5, four years of education above high school from an accredited college or university, or a bachelor's degree from one, can qualify you. A combination of education and experience can also qualify you at CO-5. At CO-7, one full year of graduate education qualifies, as does a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (such as a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, a 3.5 GPA in major courses, upper third of your class, or a qualifying honor society). At CO-9, a master's degree or equivalent graduate study qualifies.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 8 days (November 12, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your application, including the online Assessment Questionnaire, is first checked for minimum qualifications. Your resume must clearly support your answers about experience and education. If you are found to have inflated your qualifications or experience, you may be found ineligible.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Give a title and grade for every federal or FSA county job on your resume, or that time will not count toward qualifying
  • List month and year for each job and the hours worked per week
  • If you qualify through education, upload a college transcript that lists course numbers, titles, credit hours and grades
