Who can apply: The public, Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL).
This job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, a national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Career transition priority (CTAP or ICTAP) and veterans' preference may apply to some applicants.
Experience: For GL-7, you need experience receiving and admitting inmates, handling mail, or running reports in the Sentry system. For GL-8, you need experience directly related to the mailroom and receiving and discharge areas, such as inmate releases, prisoner transfers, or supervising inmates for bus moves.
Education: For GL-7, one full academic year of graduate education in criminal justice, social science, or a related field can qualify you instead of experience. There is no substitution of education for experience at GL-8.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 2 days (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will take USA Hire online assessments on 12 skills, such as attention to detail, stress tolerance, and teamwork, and must meet a cut score. Your application is then placed in the Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified category, and overstating your experience or cheating can get you removed.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must show start and end dates in MM/YYYY format and hours worked per week for each job, or that experience may not count.
- If you use education to qualify, upload your transcripts when you apply, and bring official transcripts before your first day if selected.
- Veterans must upload a DD-214 with the application, or the claimed preference will be lost.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
