Who can apply: The public, Military spouses, Family of overseas employees.
This job is open to the public: U.S. citizens, nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S., plus military spouses and family members of overseas employees. U.S. citizens must have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for 3 or more continuous years before starting federal work, and citizens of the host country and NATO citizens not married to an active-duty U.S. service member are not eligible.
Experience: You need at least 1 year of work experience in the hospitality industry after high school, or 1 year of education after high school. The experience must be directly related to the job and have taught you skills needed to lead cooks, such as preparing food, following recipes, and supervising staff.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One year of education after high school can count toward the qualification. A culinary degree from an accredited school is highly preferred. Only accredited schools count, and foreign education must be checked for U.S. equivalency.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 6 days (November 10, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and questionnaire answers are rated by a panel against the qualifications, based on your experience, education, and accomplishments. Highly qualified applicants may be interviewed and have references checked, and overstated experience or missing information can lower your rating or remove you from consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Give each government job's pay plan, series, grade, dates, and agency on your resume, as required.
- Keep your resume to two pages and show each qualification clearly, since unverified claims may not count.
- Send transcripts with your application, because missing transcripts can lead to an ineligible rating.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
