Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. Applicants are sorted by preference eligibility, such as military spouse or veteran preference, and you must prove any eligibility you claim by the closing date.
Experience: You need progressively responsible clerical, office or business work that shows you can manage a business activity, including planning, budgets, sales or inventory, and patron services. You also need experience supervising and training staff, communicating orally and in writing, and providing professional customer service. The announcement does not name a grade level for this experience.
Education: Education cannot replace experience for this position. Foreign education can count only if you prove it is equivalent to a U.S. education.
Licenses and certifications:
- Valid state driver's license for the size and type of government vehicle you drive
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 8 days (November 12, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume, supporting documents and questionnaire answers are checked against the minimum qualifications. If you meet them, your resume is compared with your questionnaire answers to rate your experience, and if your answers appear inflated you may lose consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must clearly describe budgeting, supervision, inventory and customer service experience, with dates.
- Your application is not complete without a resume and references, so submit both by the closing date at 11:59 PM EST.
- If you claim a veteran or spouse preference, upload proof such as a DD-214 with your application, and bring a driving record copy.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
