Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens may apply. The job is open to the public, and veterans and military spouses are considered along with all other candidates.
Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level. This means evaluating client needs using biopsychosocial models (looking at biological, psychological, and social factors), developing evidence-based behavioral health plans, and providing therapeutic counseling. Experience must meet this requirement alone, because education cannot replace it.
Education: You need a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. Education cannot replace experience at this grade. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized private organization or receive full U.S. credit.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice psychology independently from a U.S. state, District of Columbia, territory, or jurisdiction
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents

4 After you apply

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
