Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S.

Experience: You need at least two years of experience in child and domestic abuse counseling or treatment. You also need two years of full-time clinical experience after your license, or two years of supervised clinical experience after your master's degree for the lower tier. The announcement lists qualifications for Tier II and Tier III but does not state a federal grade level for experience.

Education: You need a master's or doctoral degree from a college or university with a nationally accredited program in social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, psychology, or a related mental health field. You must also hold a current, valid, unrestricted state or national license that allows independent clinical practice.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Current, valid, unrestricted state or national license that allows independent clinical practice in clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, or clinical psychology

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closed (October 30, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on how well your application and resume meet the listed qualifications. The best qualified applicant is chosen by the selecting official. Missing required information may make you ineligible or lower your rating.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Upload your college transcripts to your profile if you use education to qualify, or your application will not be considered.
  • Upload your professional license copy, since the announcement requires a photocopy with your application.
  • Apply online only through the MCCS Careers website by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the closing date, because emailed or mailed resumes are not considered.
