Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the United States.
Experience: You need 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth, or a combination of education and experience. The announcement also requires mastery knowledge of child development and center management. The announcement does not compare this experience to a federal grade level.
Education: A bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary or special education (with an early childhood focus), home economics (early childhood emphasis), child care administration, or a related field, plus 3 years of full-time work with children or youth. A master's degree in a related field plus at least 1 year of work with children also qualifies. A mix of education and experience is also allowed: child-related courses plus at least 24 higher-level semester hours, plus 3 years of full-time work with children or youth.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 56 days (December 31, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
Applications are reviewed every two weeks until the announcement closes or a selection is made, whichever comes first, so it may close before the stated date.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and questionnaire are checked for minimum qualifications, then rated against knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) using set criteria. The best qualified applicants go to the hiring manager, who may interview them. Missing official transcripts results in an ineligibility rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Submit official transcripts, since diplomas and degree audits are not accepted and missing transcripts means ineligibility.
- Keep your resume within two pages and use the required font and margins, because the system blocks longer files.
- Complete the online questionnaire as well as uploading your resume and documents, or your application will not be considered.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
