Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. Applicants must also be a U.S. citizen or a legal U.S. resident for at least 3 years, and must live within a 100-mile radius of Eglin AFB. Hiring preferences listed include military spouses, veterans, spouses or parents of veterans, transition hiring, and business-based action.
Experience: Target Level requires 12 months of experience working in a childcare or youth program, plus knowledge of child or youth development theories. Intermediate Level requires 6 months of experience equivalent to the CY-01 Entry Level in a group program for children or youth. Entry Level requires no previous experience. Volunteer work counts.
Education: All levels require a high school diploma or equivalent. Education can substitute for experience for this job. Target Level options include completed DoW-approved training, a Child Development Associate or other recognized child or youth credential, or at least 12 semester hours of related coursework from an accredited college. Intermediate Level options include completed Entry Level training or equivalent childcare certification, or at least 6 semester hours in early childhood, elementary or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education. Foreign education must be shown to be equivalent to U.S. education.
Licenses and certifications:
- Valid state driver's license with a cleared driving record, if you may operate passenger vehicles
- Food Handlers certification, to be completed within a set time after hire
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 9 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and supporting documents are checked against the job qualifications after the announcement closes. If you are minimally qualified, your resume and documents are compared with your questionnaire answers to judge your experience level, and you may lose consideration if your answers appear inflated.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Upload proof for any preference you claim, such as a DD-214 for veterans, before the closing date.
- If you qualify through education, upload transcripts from schools accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accreditor.
- Describe your childcare or youth experience clearly on your resume, with dates, and include volunteer work.
