Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. You may claim preferences such as military spouse, veteran, or transition hiring, but you must prove your eligibility with your application by the closing date.
Experience: Entry Level needs no previous experience. Intermediate Level needs 6 months of experience equivalent to CY-01 Entry Level in a group program for children or youth. Target Level needs 12 months of experience in a childcare or youth program, plus knowledge of child and youth development theories.
Education: All levels require a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing. Education can count instead of some experience. Intermediate Level also needs one of these: completed Entry Level DoW training, equivalent industry childcare training, or at least 6 semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education. Target Level also needs one of these: completed DoW competency-based training, a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or similar recognized credential, or at least 12 semester hours of coursework directly related to the age group served. College credit must come from accredited schools, and foreign education must be shown to be equivalent to U.S. education.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 57 days (December 31, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers are reviewed to check whether you meet the qualifications. If you are minimally qualified, your resume and documents are compared with your questionnaire answers to set your experience level, and inflated answers may cost you consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Upload proof for any level you claim, such as training certificates, transcripts, or past work records.
- Make sure your resume clearly shows your childcare or youth program experience, including volunteer work.
- Uploaded files can take several hours to clear the virus scan, so upload early before 11:59 PM EST on 12/31/2026.
