Who can apply: The public.

The job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S.

Experience: Entry level (CY-1702-01) does not list required experience, but prior work with children or youth is preferred. Intermediate level (CY-1702-01) requires 6 months of experience working with children or youth in a child and youth setting, and target level (CY-1702-02) requires 1 year of the same kind of experience.

Education: All levels require a high school diploma or equivalent. Intermediate level also requires completion of Navy Entry Level training, with Army, Air Force, and Marine equivalents accepted. Target level also requires one of these: completion of DoD standardized training courses, a valid Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School-Age (MSA) credential, or a 2-year degree in a related field such as early childhood education, child development, or youth recreation.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 27 days (November 30, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Resumes are first checked for eligibility and minimum qualifications. They are then rated on knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs), and applicants are referred for the grade they qualify for, and the hiring official may interview.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Keep your resume to two pages and be clear and specific about your child care experience and skills, since the system blocks longer files.
  • Upload proof of education even if you have a degree, and make sure the transcript shows your name, school, degree type, date, and major.
  • Complete the online questionnaire and submit all documents by 11:59 PM EST on 11/30/2026.
