Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the United States. Preference categories listed include Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Outside Applicant Veteran, Spouse/Widow/Parent of Veteran, and Transition Hiring Preference, and you must prove any preference you claim by the closing date.
Experience: Entry level needs no previous experience. Intermediate level requires six months of experience equal to the Entry level, working in a group program for children or youth, plus three Air Force modules (or equivalent) and the Air Force Orientation Training Program. Target level requires 18 months of experience working in a childcare or youth program, plus one listed credential or degree, or completed DoD-approved competency training courses. Volunteer work counts toward experience.
Education: All levels require a high school diploma or equivalent. Education can be substituted for experience for this job. For Target level, a qualifying associate degree or bachelor's degree with a major course of study (24 credit hours) in a related field such as early childhood education, child development, or youth development can be used. Schools must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be shown to be equivalent to U.S. education.
Licenses and certifications:
- Food Handlers certification (must be completed within a set time after hire or assignment)
- Valid state driver's license, required if you may transport children in a government vehicle
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 146 days (March 22, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
If all vacancies are filled before the closing date of 03/22/2027, the posting will close early. Applications are pulled and reviewed every other Thursday after the opening date.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and supporting documents will be compared against the job qualifications and your questionnaire answers. If the review finds you overstated your experience to meet requirements, you may lose consideration, and errors or omissions can affect your eligibility.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience, because the review is based on it.
- Send your diploma or GED with your application, since high school graduation is required for every level.
- If you use education to qualify, submit transcripts from accredited schools, and provide proof of equivalency for any foreign education.
- Apply before the closing date of 03/22/2027, and early if possible, because the posting may close early once positions are filled.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
