Who can apply: The public.
Open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. may apply. Applicants are sorted by hiring preferences such as military spouse, veteran, or transition hiring, and proof of any preference you claim must be sent with your application.
Experience: Entry level needs no previous experience. Intermediate level needs 6 months of experience in a group program for children or youth, equivalent to CY-01 entry level. Target level needs 12 months of childcare or youth program experience and knowledge of child and youth development.
Education: Education can replace experience at this level. Intermediate level accepts at least 6 semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education. Target level accepts at least 12 semester hours of coursework for the age group served, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or other recognized child or youth credential. Schools must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized body, and foreign education must be shown as equivalent.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 58 days (December 31, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers will be reviewed to check that you meet the minimum qualifications. Minimally qualified applicants are then rated by comparing their resume and documents with their questionnaire answers. If the agency finds you overstated your experience, you may lose consideration, and errors or missing information can lower your rating or make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- List dates and hours per week for every childcare or youth experience on your resume, since the qualification depends on time spent.
- If you qualify through school, send transcripts from accredited schools, and only include accredited schools.
- Send proof for any veterans' or military spouse preference you claim, such as a DD-214 or proof of marriage, by the 12/31/2026 closing date.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
