Who can apply: Senior executives, The public.
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen or national, or owe allegiance to the U.S. Current or former SES members and certain SES graduates can be considered non-competitively if they show proof of their status.
Experience: This is an executive job, and the announcement does not list a set number of years or a grade level. You must show in your resume that you have the five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs), which are leadership skills, and Technical Qualification 1, which is broad knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies for governance, internal controls, administrative systems, and compliance.
Education: The announcement does not require a specific degree. If you use education in place of experience, it must come from a school accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and an official transcript is required if you are selected. Foreign education must be evaluated by a credential service.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: The Corporate Senior Executive Management Office first checks whether you meet the minimum qualifications. Those who qualify are reviewed on the ECQs and Technical Qualification in your two-page resume, and highly qualified applicants may have one or more interviews; separate narratives are not accepted and resumes over two pages are disqualified.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, in PDF, with 1-inch margins and 10-point font, or you will be disqualified.
- Show clear examples for all five ECQs and Technical Qualification 1 in your resume, not in a separate narrative.
- If you are a current or former SES member or SESCDP graduate, attach your SF-50 or certification proof, because it is required for non-competitive consideration.
