Do you qualify for GS-4?
With experience: You need one year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that gave you the knowledge and skills for this job, at the GS-4 level. Examples include answering phones, filing, routing mail, scheduling meetings, and using office computers, copiers, and fax machines.
With education: An associate's degree, or two years of successfully completed education above high school, from an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university. You may also combine school and experience.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume of no more than 2 pages with name, contact information, education, and work experience
- Work experience on resume must include hours worked per week, dates of employment, and job title and grade if applicable
- College transcripts if you use education to qualify (an unofficial copy is fine at first)
- Proof of accreditation if any education was from a foreign school
- Proof of eligibility, SF-50, and recent performance appraisal if you claim CTAP, ICTAP, or RPL priority
How you will be rated: Applicants are first checked for minimum qualifications and then rated into a Quality category based on answers to the Assessment Questionnaire about experience, education, and training. Applicants with veterans' preference are listed ahead of others within each category. Inaccurate or inflated information can lower your score or make you ineligible.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to 2 pages or less, since longer resumes are removed from consideration.
- List hours per week and exact dates for each past job, because the resume must show them.
