Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or a person who owes allegiance to the United States, such as a lawful permanent resident seeking citizenship, an admitted refugee or asylee who has filed the required declaration, or a current federal officer or employee. Veterans' preference applies.
Experience: For GS-13, you need at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, such as providing facilities management services, directing a labor and custodial organization, and coordinating with other groups on procedures. For GS-14, you need at least 52 weeks at the GS-13 level, such as managing budgets, manpower and costs, supervising subordinates, and developing supervisor performance requirements.
Education: No education requirement.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 9 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your questionnaire answers get a numerical score based on four areas: supervisory and management skills, administrative management, oral and written communication, and planning and evaluating. A Human Resources Specialist or subject matter expert then checks that your resume supports your answers, and falsifying information can lead to disqualification.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must show dates of employment and the specific supervisory and budget work you did, since reviewers check your answers against it
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, and make sure your questionnaire answers match what it says
- If you are a veteran, have your DD-214 ready, because it is required to claim veterans' preference
