Who can apply: The public, Federal employees - Excepted service.
Only U.S. citizens may apply, and citizenship is required at the time of application. The job is open to the public, and candidates do not need military service or veterans' preference to be considered.
Experience: For Associate Professor (AD-23), you need a record of sustained teaching and documented scholarship, typically five to seven years of university teaching at the Assistant Professor level. Time in rank alone does not qualify. For Assistant Professor (AD-22), you must show the potential for effective teaching, research, and service.
Education: You must have an earned doctoral degree in statistics before employment begins. The announcement says this is projected for Fall 2027. Education must come from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting body, and foreign degrees need proof of U.S. equivalency.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 117 days (February 28, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
This is an open continuous announcement with cut-off dates starting 30 November 2026 and every 30 days after that. Applicants who apply after a cut-off date are only considered if no selection is made from the first group or more openings occur and the first list is too small.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: A faculty rating panel ranks applicants based on education, teaching, scholarship, and service. Top applicants may be asked to interview and give a presentation to the faculty. An incomplete package will not be considered, and a resume missing hours per week or dates of employment may be marked insufficient.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- List hours per week and dates of employment for every job on your CV, or your application may be marked insufficient
- Send transcripts for all degrees, including bachelor's and master's, and put your full name on every document
- Keep your CV to two pages and leave out photos and personal details like age or religion
