4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Hours per week must be listed for every job on your resume, because experience is only credited on a regular 40-hour workweek basis.
  • Do not include a personal photograph in your application package, or you will not be considered.
  • If you are an Indiana National Guard technician hired or promoted in the last 36 months, you will need a signed Exception to Policy memo. Contact the HRO Staffing inbox if you are unsure.
