Experience: You must show enough training and experience to do the job. You must meet the Barely Acceptable level on both 'ability to supervise' and 'aptitude for work with prisoners,' and your resume must describe these skills in detail. The announcement does not state a set number of years or a grade level.
Education: Not stated. If you use school to qualify, the school must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Licenses and certifications:
- EPA approved Section 608 Technician Certifications 'Type I' and 'Type II', or EPA approved Section 608 Technician Certification 'Universal'. Current BOP employees in WS-5306 positions are considered to meet this requirement.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes tomorrow (November 4, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your answers to the online assessment questions place you in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified. Your resume and documents are checked against those answers. You lose points or may be found ineligible if your resume does not clearly describe your skills, if you do not score at least half of the possible points, or if you lack the required certification.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Upload your EPA Section 608 certification when you apply, because applicants without proof are not considered.
- Show start and end dates in MM/YYYY format and hours per week for every job on your resume, or that experience may not count.
- Name uploaded files without special characters like %, #, or @, and use names such as VA Letter, DD-214, or Transcripts.
