Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public, but applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. The agency says it is open to all qualified U.S. citizens.
Experience: No experience is needed for the entry level, Nurse II. Nurse III requires one year of specialized nurse practitioner experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level. Experience with neurology and spinal cord injury patients is preferred.
Education: You need a post-master's certificate, or a master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. The nursing school must be accredited by ACEN or CCNE when you finished the program. Foreign degrees must be validated by an approved degree evaluation agency.
Licenses and certifications:
- Active, current, full, and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (APN) license in a U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
- Full and current basic board certification as a Nurse Practitioner, such as FNP, ANP, AGPCNP, ACNP, AGACNP, or GNP, from ANCC, AANPCB, or another nationally recognized certifying body
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes tomorrow (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications, using your online questionnaire and your documents. Your application, resume, CV, and documents will be verified, and errors or missing information may lower your rating or affect your consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- List your nurse practitioner license and board certification clearly, with their numbers and expiration dates.
- Describe any work with neurology or spinal cord injury patients, since this experience is preferred.
- Send your DD-214 and SF-15 with proof if you claim veterans' preference, because preference requires documentation.
