Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to all qualified U.S. citizens, nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited. Former EDRP participants cannot apply for the loan repayment incentive.
Experience: The entry level (Advanced Practice Nurse II) requires no experience. The Level III requires one year of specialized nurse anesthetist experience at the Level II grade.
Education: You need a master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs (COA) when you completed it. Applicants who are still finishing their education may be referred and tentatively selected, but they cannot be hired until they meet the education requirements.
Licenses and certifications:
- Active, current, full and unrestricted license to practice as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) or equivalent in a U.S. state, territory, or DC
- Current certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or an equivalent COA-recognized certification
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 57 days (December 31, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications. Your education, scope, and length of nursing practice also help set your grade and salary. Missing or incomplete required information may result in an ineligible rating or a lower overall rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- The 2-page resume limit does not apply to this job, so send a long-form resume or CV that lists your dates and details.
- Include your nurse anesthesia program's COA accreditation and your certification details so reviewers can verify them.
- If you claim veterans' preference, select it in the questionnaire and attach your DD-214 with proof of your service.
