Civil servants and contract staff can apply. A person who has not passed a civil service exam can apply, because the entry grade in category C allows direct hiring.
Category: Category C (staff)
The profile they look for:
- Ability to work alone, sometimes in a small team.
- High availability and irregular or shifted hours.
- Constant travel between work sites.
- Lifting loads and standing for long periods.
- Frequent contact with elected officials, staff and residents.
2 Résumé and cover letter
A one- or two-page résumé and a short cover letter that takes up the duties of the offer with your examples. If you are a civil servant, you are often asked for your latest status decision (arrêté) and your latest annual review reports.
3 Apply

Send your CV and cover letter by email to the town hall, or apply on the employer's website.
4 Interview and answer
If your application is shortlisted, the employer contacts you for an interview, often with two or three people. Prepare: why this job, your experience close to the duties, and your questions.
Good to know:
- Physically demanding job: noise, lifting loads, dangerous products.
- Irregular hours with a large daily span.
- Seasonal work, with peaks linked to the weather.
- Bonus scheme, annual bonus and contribution to health insurance.
