Civil servants and contract workers can apply. A person who has not passed a civil service competition can be hired directly, because the entry grade in category C allows it.
Category: Category C (staff)
The profile they look for:
- Ability to lift and handle heavy loads.
- Outdoor work on public roads with traffic.
- Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Using petrol-powered, electric and welding tools.
- Working in a team under the supervision of a team leader.
- Availability for emergency situations.
2 Résumé and cover letter
A one- or two-page résumé and a short cover letter that takes up the duties of the offer with your examples. If you are a civil servant, you are often asked for your latest status decision (arrêté) and your latest annual review reports.
3 Apply

Apply on the employer's website given in the offer. You can also send your CV and cover letter by post to the town hall.
4 Interview and answer
If your application is shortlisted, the employer contacts you for an interview, often with two or three people. Prepare: why this job, your experience close to the duties, and your questions.
Good to know:
- Outdoor work, exposed to bad weather and damp.
- Winter road maintenance on-call duty.
- Heavy lifting and repetitive arm movements.
- Risks of falls, road traffic and cuts.
