1 Check the conditions You are here
Civil servants (titulaires) and contract staff can apply. A person who has not passed a competitive exam can be hired directly, because the grade is category C.
Category: Category C (staff)
The profile they look for:
- Able to work alone, sometimes in a small team.
- Very available, with irregular working hours.
- Travel constantly between work sites.
- Wear suitable work clothing.
- Comfortable dealing with elected officials, staff and residents.
2 Résumé and cover letter
A one- or two-page résumé and a short cover letter that takes up the duties of the offer with your examples. If you are a civil servant, you are often asked for your latest status decision (arrêté) and your latest annual review reports.
3 Apply

Apply on the employer's website, or send your cover letter and CV by post to the Mayor.
4 Interview and answer
If your application is shortlisted, the employer contacts you for an interview, often with two or three people. Prepare: why this job, your experience close to the duties, and your questions.
Good to know:
- Physically demanding job: noise, lifting loads, dangerous products.
- Hours may be irregular, with a large daily range.
- Very seasonal work, with peaks linked to weather conditions.
