Do you qualify for GS-7?
With experience: You need one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in federal service. This means work operating litigation support software (such as Relativity or Everlaw), organizing case information, reviewing and producing discovery, or helping attorneys prepare for trials.
With education: You can qualify with one full year of graduate study in a related field such as criminal justice or law, or with a master's or higher degree in such a field. You can also qualify with a bachelor's degree (or one expected within 9 months) plus one of three academic criteria: upper third of your class, a 3.0 GPA, or membership in a national honor society. You can combine graduate study and specialized experience to reach 100 percent. Transcripts are required for education-based qualification.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume of two pages or less showing official title, employer contact information, start and end dates by month and year, hours per week, and duties
- Responses to the online questionnaire, completed during application
- Unofficial college transcripts if you use education to qualify
- DD-214 if you claim veterans' preference
- CTAP or ICTAP notice, latest performance appraisal, and latest SF-50 if you claim those programs
- Proof of credential evaluation in English if you qualify with foreign education
How you will be rated: Your application is rated under DOJ category rating, based on your resume and questionnaire answers, and you must also complete a USA Hire online assessment measuring competencies such as attention to detail, teamwork, and reading comprehension. If you rate yourself higher than your resume supports, your ratings may be lowered or you may be removed from consideration. Four optional essay questions of 200 words or less each are not scored, but you must certify you wrote them yourself without AI or consultants.
