Do you qualify for GS-14?

With experience: You need one year of specialized federal experience at the GS-13 level. It must show you developed technology policy recommendations, coordinated with stakeholders on tech policy, and wrote policy analysis or briefings for senior decision-makers. Separately, 4 years of relevant foreign affairs experience can meet the basic requirement instead of a degree.

With education: A bachelor's or graduate degree from an accredited college in a listed field such as international relations, political science, economics, history, law, statistics, or the humanities. Or at least 24 semester hours of those subjects. Or 12 semester hours in one of those fields plus 12 in statistics or quantitative methods. Foreign degrees can count if you show they are comparable to accredited U.S. education.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Resume, no more than two pages, with start and end dates (month/year) and hours per week worked
  • College transcripts if you qualify through education; official sealed transcripts are required if selected
  • DD-214 only if you claim a veterans' preference, which does not apply to this job
  • ICTAP/CTAP documents only if they apply to you

How you will be rated: You take the ApplyGov online competency assessments, scored from 70 to 100, and the top candidates have their resumes reviewed for minimum qualifications. Resumes longer than two pages are removed, and answers not supported by your resume can lower your rating.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must show start and end dates by month and year, plus hours per week, and stay within two pages.
  • If you qualify through education, send transcripts with your application, or you will lose consideration.
  • Describe your GS-13 level experience clearly and specifically, since the agency does not assume what you have done.
