Do you qualify for VN?

With experience: Experience sets your grade level, from Nurse I, Level I up to Nurse III, and higher levels need more years and training. For example, Nurse I, Level III needs an associate degree plus 2 years of professional nursing experience. Preferred experience is 1 year of case management and 1 year of inpatient care.

With education: You can qualify with a nursing degree from a school of professional nursing accredited by ACEN or CCNE, depending on the grade level. Degrees that may apply include an associate degree, a bachelor's (BSN), or a master's (MSN), and the education must match the grade. Foreign nursing degrees need a formal equivalency validation. Graduates of foreign schools with a current, full, active, unrestricted registration can also meet the education requirement.

Licenses and certifications you need:

  • Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a registered nurse in a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Long-form resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Transcript if you use education to qualify
  • Certificate of Foreign Equivalency if you use foreign education
  • DD-214 if you claim veterans' preference
  • SF-15 if you claim 10-point veterans' preference
  • License or professional certification, if applicable

How you will be rated: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications, and your nursing experience is checked for quality in five areas: Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research. Vague descriptions can lower your rating, because the agency will not assume anything about your experience.

Tips for this job:

  • Use the full questionnaire and list the dates, hours per week and duties for each nursing job.
  • Send a transcript if you use education to qualify, and a foreign equivalency certificate if your degree is foreign.
  • Submit everything by 11:59 PM ET on 11/11/2026, and apply early since the job may close after 50 applications.
