With experience: Your nursing experience is judged on five areas: practice, veteran and patient driven care, leadership, professional development, and evidence-based practice or research. The amount of experience needed depends on the grade level: for example, Nurse I Level III requires 2 years of professional nursing experience with an associate degree, while Nurse II and III require more, including specialized nursing experience.

With education: Graduate of a nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE (or a qualifying bridge program), plus a current, full, active, unrestricted RN registration. A master's degree in nursing (MSN) can qualify you at some grade levels in place of extra experience. Foreign education is not counted as a related degree.

Licenses and certifications you need:

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN registration in a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico, or D.C.
