Do you qualify for GS-12?
With experience: You need one year of specialized experience that is typical of GS-11 work. It includes doing full biopsychosocial assessments for patients with complex medical or surgical conditions, creating advanced care plans, and leading discharge planning for high-risk individuals. Experience alone must meet this requirement.
With education: You need a master's degree (or higher) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Education cannot replace experience at this grade. Foreign degrees must be evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. accredited program.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- Current, active, valid, unrestricted LCSW (clinical license to practice social work independently) from a U.S. state, D.C., territory, or jurisdiction
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume, two pages or less, showing employer, job title, start and end dates (month and year), hours per week, and duties
- Copy of your LCSW license (missing it means you are rated ineligible)
- Transcripts, required because you qualify through your degree
- Proof of U.S. citizenship
- Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration, if male and born after 1959
- Most recent performance appraisal, if applicable
- Cover letter (optional)
How you will be rated: You are rated on how well your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire show you meet the qualifications. If the agency finds you inflated your qualifications or experience, you may lose consideration.
Tips for this job:
- Make your resume show hours per week and specific social work duties that match GS-11 level specialized experience, and keep it to two pages.
- Attach a copy of your LCSW license and your transcripts, or your application may be rated ineligible.
- Upload documents early, since virus scanning can take up to an hour or several hours.
