This is an open competition, so anyone who meets the requirements can apply. Applicants with credentials from outside Canada must have them reviewed by the Royal College.
Education: Medical Doctor (MD). Specialty training in Community Medicine/Public Health (FRCPC) preferred, or Family Medicine (CCFP) with a Master of Public Health or equivalent.
Experience: Public health experience required. Experience as a Medical Officer of Health is an asset. Alberta government or health system experience is preferred.

2 Resume and cover letter

4 Interview, tests and references
If you are shortlisted, they contact you, often by email. Interviews can be in person or by video, and some jobs also have a written or practical test. Have two or three references ready: former supervisors who know your work.
Good to know:
- Final candidates must pass a security screening
- Interviews are scheduled to begin in late October 2026
- The competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same or lower level
