1 Check who can apply You are here
Anyone who meets the requirements can apply, including applicants from outside the City. Applicants must be at least 16 and must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Education: No formal education is stated.
Experience: Previous work or volunteer experience as an instructor is an asset, not a requirement.
What they ask for:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Hold a current Level 1 instructor certification from CSIA, CASI, CSCF or CSF.
- Hold current Basic First Aid and CPR certifications recognized by WSIB.
- Complete the Principles of Healthy Child Development course, provided free after a conditional offer.
2 Resume and cover letter
Tailor your resume to this posting: use its words and show each requirement with a concrete example. In Canada, leave out your photo, age and marital status. Add a short cover letter if the posting asks for one or accepts it.
3 Apply on the official site
No closing date given: the posting can close at any time, do not wait.
Apply online through the official City of Toronto posting, quoting Requisition ID 64750. Returning City of Toronto employees should not apply and should use the online scheduling form instead.
4 Interview, tests and references
If you are shortlisted, they contact you, often by email. Interviews can be in person or by video, and some jobs also have a written or practical test. Have two or three references ready: former supervisors who know your work.
Good to know:
- This is a talent pool for future vacancies, so no start date or shifts are confirmed.
- Returning City of Toronto employees must use the online scheduling form instead of applying.
- A Vulnerable Sector Check is required. Toronto residents (postal code starting with M) get a free check; others pay their local police.
- The posting end date is written as 11/01/2026, so confirm the exact closing date on the official page.
